Mission Statement

Founded in 1964 as a privately funded college in central Taiwan, Overseas Chinese University (OCU) is dedicated to excellence in teaching, research and community services. OCU has a proud tradition of providing educational opportunities for intellectual and emotional growth in a broad range of disciplines and professional fields. Integration of the latest technology throughout the University strives to create a stimulating environment in which students, faculty and staff can develop their interests, skills and talents to the fullest extent. Diverse extracurricular activities are offered, through which interpersonal communication and cooperation skills can be cultivated as a compliment to sound study skills and preparation for lifelong learning. As an aid for later career, students are required to master basic computer skills and be proficient in at least one foreign language, especially English.

Accreditation

Overseas Chinese University is fully accredited by the Ministry of Education, Republic of China, and offers both bachelor and associate degrees in Accounting & Information, Applied Chinese Language, Applied English, Banking and Risk Management, Business Administration, Environmental Resources Management, Finance, Financial & Economic Law, Industrial Engineering & Management, Information Management, Information Technology, International Trade, and Marketing & Supply Chain Management. Master programs are provided in Management, Information Technology, and Global Logistics Management Extended Education Class.

The faculty consists of over than 450 full-time and part-time professionals. The student body of over 9,000 students is divided into 218 day and night classes. In recent years, OCU’s entering freshmen have had the highest average entrance exam scores among private colleges and institutions in central Taiwan.

  • part-time: 206 professors, associate professors, assistant professors, and instructors.

School calendar: (2009-2010)

  • First semester: September 21 - January 24
  • Winter vacation: January 25 - February 21
  • Second semester: February 22 - June 27
  • Summer vacation: June 27 - Early September

Grading system: grades vary from 0 to 100. The minimum passing grade is 60.

Language Center: GEPT (General English Proficiency Test)
